In the last year, a big part of my work with acoustic sources and electronic elaboration, was directed towards a number of experiments using acoustic feedback. I worked with both vibration speakers and conventional loudspeakers, and with miniature and contact microphones, but, rather than only air, I worked including, between the two, a resonant structure, such as a tube, a membrane or a string in order to keep them in vibration.

A source of inspiration has been the work by Michelangelo Lupone's Grancassa, and his feed-drum. This instrument, built with a conventional loudspeaker underneath the membrane of a grancassa drum, connected to a piezo-transducer on its side, uses feedback to access vibration modes and frequencies produced by the excitation of the membrane, normally inaudible due to their reduced decay time when excited by conventional beaters.

I have been working on substituting the speaker with a small array of vibration speakers placed directly in contact with the drum surface, and at the same time instead of the piezo element, I built a DIY prototype for a hand-held glove microphone, giving the performer the ability to use its hand not only to hit the membrane, but also to keep it in resonance via feedback.

Other prototypes include a guitar where the strings are put into motion by mechanically exciting its body, and a mouthpiece-less saxophone using loudspeakers and a miniature microphone dipped in the pipe.
